SP-123 - Hand-Dyed Horsehide Leather Type II Jacket - Brown

The Studio D’Artisan SP-123 is a striking example of the brand’s dedication to traditional craftsmanship, celebrating its 45th anniversary with a meticulously hand-dyed horsehide jacket. Made from 1.1mm thick horsehide sourced from Himeji, Japan’s renowned tanning region, the leather undergoes a labor-intensive hand-dyeing process that sets it apart. Artisans apply layers of dye by hand, allowing each panel to absorb color at a slightly different rate, resulting in an almost ombré effect that enhances the depth and dimension of the leather. This technique creates a rich interplay of tones, with darker hues blending seamlessly into lighter areas, giving the jacket a dynamic, lived-in look right from the start. As it ages, the variation in dye will evolve in a way unlike anything we’ve ever seen, ensuring that no two pieces will wear the same. The design is based on a second-type denim jacket silhouette but refined with one flap chest pocket, a second patch pocket, adjustable waist buttons, and custom metal button closures that add to its vintage-inspired character. Fit Notes: Studio has a really trim fit in general, but the type II's are always built a little boxier. Tommy is wearing a size 42 in this piece, only because the chest measurements are so big. It allows him to get the boxy fit he wants without having extra long arms. We recommend sticking with your typical Japanese size in this and sizing up once if you're in between. Tommy is 5'10," 165lbs with a 40" chest.
