Heimat Textil

Heimat Textil is a German knitwear label founded in 2016 by Christian Hofmann, who spent twelve years at Ralph Lauren before setting out to make wool clothing the old way in his home country. Every Heimat sweater, beanie and scarf is made in Germany, in an industry that once filled whole villages with knitting mills and now survives in a handful of workshops. The name is a German word without a clean English equivalent, somewhere between home, homeland and the feeling of belonging.

The house signature is a heavy 5-gauge, low-tension knit in 100% virgin wool, so dense that a single crewneck takes close to a full kilogram of yarn. That low tension gives the fabric a springy give, and the wool brings natural water resistance and self-cleaning properties that suit a life spent outdoors. Sleeves and collars are sewn on by hand, and contrast stripes at the cuffs and hem have become a Heimat calling card. A finer 8-gauge knit covers milder days.

The designs come from naval, fisherman and mechanic dress: the U-Boat roll neck, the Rundhals crew neck, the Harbour sweater, and the Mechanics, Deck and Expedition beanies that first made the brand's name. Dant carries Heimat Textil knitwear and wool hats in Indianapolis and ships worldwide.
