13oz - Galaxy Selvedge - Denim Jacket

The Naked & Famous Galaxy Selvedge Type II Denim Jacket is a James Dant exclusive, commissioned directly with the brand as a collaboration between Naked & Famous and our shop. When we saw the Galaxy Selvedge jeans, the fabric stopped us in our tracks, and it felt like a waste to leave a denim this striking in bottoms-only silhouettes. So we asked Naked & Famous if they would cut it into their Type II jacket, and they came back with a huge thumbs up. Having a brand we have carried and admired for years put their fabric and their pattern behind an idea that started in our shop is a big deal for us, and this jacket is the result.

The 13oz Japanese selvedge earns its name through the fabric rather than any graphic or treatment. The nep-heavy weft introduces small clusters and knots of unmilled fiber into the weave that scatter across the surface like stars, producing organic irregularities and surface highlights that read differently in every light. Across the broad panels of a jacket, that star field has room to spread out and take over the whole garment. The weft itself is dyed so deeply that it reads several shades darker than the warp, sitting close enough to black that you could almost convince yourself it was, and as the fabric fades with wear the contrast between the two will produce electric blue highlights along the seams, pocket flaps, placket, and cuffs that make the nep texture even more striking. The addition of rayon softens the hand and enhances the drape in a way that cotton alone at this weight cannot match, but the fabric still carries a nice starch and the true denim feel that lets you know exactly what you're wearing.

Naked & Famous builds it on their Type II pattern with flap chest pockets and slash hand pockets at the waist, and the selvedge ID runs up the placket. The brand's signature donut buttons are coated in black to echo the hardware on the jeans, and the same Horween® Blue Cavalier Ink Chromexcel® leather patch carries over so the two pieces read as a matched pair. Worn together, the jacket and jeans make a full Galaxy set, and since each piece fades on its own schedule, the highlights that develop across the two will be entirely your own.

Fit Notes: Tommy is wearing a large in this piece. The Type II jacket is a pretty classic fit, and he likes a little extra room. You could likely wear your true size if you like a more traditional fit, but we ultimately recommend you size up once. Tommy is 5'9", 160lbs with a 41" chest.
