James Dant x Dehen - Selvedge Denim Crissman Overshirt - Black

The idea for this shirt sprung to life all the way in January of 2023. We have always loved the Crissman, but really wanted to elevate it with the addition of selvedge. So, our good friend Peter at Dehen went to work an convinced the warehouse to produce these for us. Ultimately we had three very utilitarian requests from this collection. We wanted the fabric to be light and versatile; the fabric had to be rinsed to knock off the stiffness; and, the length of the garment had to be shortened (by 2"). We felt if we could accomplish all of these things, either of these shirts would become heirloom collector's edition garments that could be worn by anyone who loves what we do. This was truly a built-from-the-ground-up kind of garment where we were working with fabric distributors, wash houses, and ultimately Dehen to complete the cut and sew portion fo the garment. 

The second fabric you see here is a 10oz Yoshiwa Mills inverted red/white line selvedge from Japan. This is the lighter of the two fabrics which became even more wearable because we've sent this to a wash house to give it a one-rinse, or Tempi treatment to make it easy to wear out of the gate. It also brings a lot of neppy, hairy texture to the surface fo the fabric. We still consider these garments to be raw meaning they will fade and age to perfection. This fabric is nice and dark, even with that rinse, because it's a black warp and charcoal weft. We stuck with tonal stitching to make this a black-on-black colorway and slapped on as many tortoise buttons as we could fit for a nice contrast. The finisher on this garment is the handwarmer pockets making it a wonderful blend between a shirt and jacket.

A variance of +/-.5" is within tolerance.

Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy is wearing a size medium in this version of the Crissman. In the past, he alwasy felt like the length was the thing holding him back from buying his true size. Since we shortened the length by 2", the medium instantly became a much better fit. If you intend to wear this as a shirt, you might be able to size down; if you plan to wear it as an outer layer, stick to your usual tag size. We always recommend sizing up once if you're in between sizes. It works 90% of the time. Tommy is 5'10," 165lbs with a 40" chest.
