Tanuki is another brand that's been on our radar for quite some time. The more modern takes on vintage classics were something we always appreciated. And the simplicity of the branding is really alluring to us. We love how they incorporate it in the design of the apparel. They have been one of the most pleasant brands to work with and we can't wait to keep this journey going with a brand that has an eye on the future while keeping one foot in the past. 

Crafted from the exclusive SOGA fabric, a richly textured 15oz denim woven from Texan cotton and artfully dyed with a botanical fusion of saffron and turmeric. Turmeric predominantly imparts its vibrant hue, while saffron delicately infuses subtle orange undertones, creating a distinctive yellowish tint, aptly named Soga-iro, reminiscent of the chrysanthemum flower. This striking color is a tribute to Emperor Ninmyo, an admirer of yellow chrysanthemums during the Jowa era (834-848). Soga, a derivation of 'Jowa,' is at times referred to as 'Jowa-iro.' As history recalls, Emperor Ninmyo passionately incorporated these blooms into his attire and palace gardens.

Weighing in at a robust 15oz, the fabric suits year-round wear. Its loose weave and gentle tension yield abundant slubs and fuzziness, lending it an initial rugged appearance akin to canvas. This unique attribute is a result of the botanical dye, rendering the denim stiff and inflexible at the outset. Yet, over time, it transforms into the same soft, comfortable texture for which their fabrics are renowned.

Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy is wearing a size 32 in the pictures, as the regular fit usually has some extra room up top. He would likely size up personally to a 33 or 34 depending on how loose he wanted to go. The 33 is more close to his true waist fit. These have plenty of room in the top block and a regular straight fit to the cuff. They're our favorite comfy fit from the brand.  Tommy is 5'10," 175lbs with a 33-34" waist depending on the rise.
