BILLI-001S - Billiken Selvedge Jeans - Regular Straight

The "Billiken" collection by Studio D'Artisan pays homage to a beloved deity that holds a special place in Osaka's culture. Billiken is much more than a simple symbol; it has become a cultural icon woven into the fabric of daily life in the city. Known for bringing good fortune, academic success, and happiness in matters of love, the deity draws visitors who gently rub the soles of its feet, hoping their dreams will come true.

Though Billiken originated in the United States, having been created in 1908 by artist Florence Pretz, it found a lasting home in Japan. The statue carries the inscription, "The God of things as they ought to be," which, when translated into Japanese, reflects the idea of guiding life toward its ideal state. This belief suggests that Billiken helps steer events and circumstances toward how they should naturally unfold. The jacket is for someone who really likes to peacock. These pants are a little more subtle with the little Billiken poking from the pocket and the pocket bags honoring the deity. It's just enough to let you know you're wearing something special without screaming it to the world.

A variance of +/-.5" is within tolerance. 

Fit Notes: This roomier fit seems to be coming more in line with what we're used to in the waist. Tommy would have been able to fit into a 33 in these, but went with a 34 because that is his rule of thumb with Studio. He always starts there, and usually is either solid or needs one more size up. This regular straight is specing a bit larger in the waste. We still recommend sizing up once, but you could potentially get away with your true size if the measurements line up. Tommy is 5'10," 165lbs with a 33-34" waist.
