The D1899S “Kyoto Montsuki” Kuro Overdye x Natural Indigo Selvedge Denim is one of Studio D’Artisan’s most complex dyeing achievements to date. This 13.5oz selvedge denim starts as a natural indigo rope-dyed fabric before being overdyed using the traditional Kyoto Montsuki process — a black dyeing method once reserved for formal kimonos. The result is a layered tone that blends deep black and indigo hues, gradually revealing the blue base as it fades.

Cut in SDA’s modern tapered fit, this pair balances clean lines with vintage construction. Every detail reinforces the brand’s dedication to heritage denim: raised belt loops, hidden rivets, custom iron buttons, and that unmistakable selvedge ID. Fit Notes: These fit like a traditional pair of Studio D'artisan, which is smaller than most brands. Tommy is wearing a 34, which is his normal size. They fit with that standard, slim silhouette that the tapered fit is known for. Buy the size you want based on the leg opening. We always recommend going up a bit and wearing a belt so the taper doesn't look ridiculous. Tommy is 5'10," 162lbs with a 33-34" waist.
