orSlow calls this one the Shoe Cut, and the name does the explaining: the leg is drawn to fall over your footwear rather than stop short of it. That happens gradually. The pattern stays roomy through the hip and thigh, holds a straight line down to the knee, and only then opens into a flare, so the shape reads far closer to a generous, easy jean than to anything that announces itself as flared. Cuff them and the flare quiets down further. The denim is a 13oz woven in Japan from Japanese cotton, substantial in the hand and soft from the first wear. This pair arrives in the Real Used wash, where skilled artisans work the distressing by hand rather than leaving it to a machine program, and the difference shows in where the wear lands. The whiskers, the honeycombs behind the knee, and the fading along the thigh sit exactly where years of actual wear would put them, which is the part automated finishing never quite gets right. The result is a pair that looks like it already has a history behind it and still has plenty of road left, since the indigo keeps moving from here and the next decade of fading is yours to put in. Everything from sewing through final finishing happens in Japan, right down to the paper patch at the waist and the zip fly.

Fit Notes: These are a roomier fit throughout, but the size (3) fit Tommy the best in the waist, per usual. These feel a lot like the other denim silhouettes in the top block, so we would recommend sticking with your true size. Tommy is our standard fit model at 5'9", 160lbs with a 33-34" waist.
