The Marine Corps spent the Second World War in herringbone twill. The utility uniforms issued from the early 1940s were cut plain and built to work in, and the jacket that came out of that program is the basis for this one. Herringbone earned its place in those uniforms for good reason, since the zigzag weave gives more strength for its weight than a plain twill and handles abrasion without feeling like armor. Here it lands at a weight that carries from early autumn through to early spring, substantial enough to work as outerwear on a cool day and light enough to layer under a coat when the season turns. The original pattern was rational to the point of being severe, with every pocket and seam placed for a reason, and that logic is kept intact while the proportions are opened up for how people actually dress now. The body runs roomy enough to pull over a sweater or a heavy shirt. Charcoal donut buttons close the front, carried over from the ring-shaped buttons the Marine Corps specified on its utility uniforms, and the whole thing is made in Japan.

Fit Notes: This jacket is definitely oversized, but not unreasonably. Tommy generally wears a (2) in most tops from the brand and decided to go that route with this coverall. The (2) was a pretty spectacular fit and seems to run a little more true than the canvas and denim coveralls. It's a slightly boxy, oversized fit, as a coverall should be, but still feels refined. We recommend you take your normal orSlow size in this one.  Tommy is 5'9," 160lbs with a 41" chest.
