10oz - Wendell Waxed Canvas Double Knee - STPF Brown

Waxed cotton came out of the sail lofts, where crews rubbed oils and wax into canvas to keep the weather out, and the principle has not changed since. Wax fills the spaces in a tightly woven cotton, so water beads up and runs off the surface instead of soaking through, and the treated cloth takes on a firm hand with real body to it. Indigofera uses that canvas for the Wendell, cutting it as a work pant with the detailing those pants have always carried: square back pockets, elongated front pockets, and a tool pocket alongside them, with rivets set at the points that take the most strain and a second layer of canvas across the knees, which is where a work pant usually gives out first. The leg runs straight and close rather than full, which keeps the stiffness of the fabric from reading as bulk. The wax is also what makes these worth owning for the long haul. Every crease and fold shifts the wax away from the high points, so lighter marks come up along the thighs, behind the knees, and across the pockets, and the pattern maps whatever you spend your days doing. One thing to know: keep these out of the washing machine, since the wax will come off in the drum and foul it. Light dirt comes off with a damp cloth.

Fit Notes: Tommy is wearing a size 33 in the pics. He used to wear a 32, but prefers a little more room in the waist. That is definitely welcome due to these pants feeling pretty stiff from the wax. Indigofera recommends sizing up and letting them mold to your body. We recommend the same.Tommy is 5'9," 160lbs with 33-34" waist.
