1149 - Hickory Stripe Black Work Trousers - Charcoal

Hickory stripe came out of American workwear, woven with indigo and natural yarns into the narrow stripe that covered railroad men, engineers, and anyone else who spent a day around machinery, and the name comes from hickory wood for its toughness. Full Count keeps the weave and changes what you see. The finished trouser is garment dyed with pigment in charcoal black, which lays the color over the top of the stripe rather than through it, so the pattern recedes into a shadow stripe that only shows when the light hits it right. The effect is far more subdued than hickory usually reads, closer to a solid at a glance. Pigment also sits on the surface of the fiber rather than bonding into it, so it wears off gradually at the creases and edges and lets more of the stripe surface over time. The silhouette runs wide, and the detailing stays plain, which leaves the fabric to do the work. The matching chore jacket is cut from the same cloth if you want to run it as a set.
