This one’s different. Even in the world of ultra-limited Japanese denim, the MIJ15 stands apart as something truly rare. Naked & Famous has reached deep into the roots of traditional Japanese dyeing for this release, combining two of the most revered natural processes - Tokushima hand-dyed natural indigo and kakishibu persimmon tannin - into a single, showstopping fabric. It’s called the Intangible Cultural Treasure Selvedge, and that name is no exaggeration.
This 14oz unsanforized slub selvedge is the kind of denim that shouldn’t exist in 2025. The labor required to produce even a single yard - between the hand-dyeing, fermentation, drying, and weaving - has all but disappeared from modern textile production. And yet, here it is: indigo-dyed warp threads paired with kakishibu-dyed weft threads, creating a richly layered denim with a unique hue and character. The deep blue of the indigo plays off the warm, bronze undertones of the tannin-dyed weft, resulting in fades that are earthy, high-contrast, and totally one-of-a-kind.
Because of the complexity and time involved in making this fabric, production was extremely limited. We were only able to secure a partial size run—something we almost never do - just to have the chance to offer it. Every detail is built to the highest standard in Japan, from the rusting iron buttons and oxidizing copper rivets to the raised belt loops and selvedge button fly. It’s all finished with a shell cordovan leather patch and a vintage red selvedge ID. If you’re a denim collector - or just someone who appreciates garments made with intention - this is one of those once-in-a-decade releases that speaks for itself.

Fit Notes: Tommy is wearing a size 34 waist in these. That's his standard Weird Guy size, even though these are generally known to fit a little bit tighter than the other cuts. He would likely buy a size 34 in this pair because they are loosely woven and known to stretch more than other pairs. We always recommend sizing up once if you don't know your N&F size or are between sizing. Tommy is 5'10", 165lbs with a 33-34" waist.
