8198 - "Amami Oshima" Mud-Dyed Loopwheeled T-Shirt - Dark Brown

The Studio D'Artisan 8198 Amami Oshima Mud-Dyed Loopwheeled T-Shirt is a meeting point between two of the most labor-intensive textile traditions Japan has to offer. The base fabric is knitted on a loopwheel machine, spinning slowly under the weight of the yarn alone to produce a softness and subtle irregularity that modern knitting equipment simply cannot replicate. The dyeing process is where it gets truly extraordinary. Amami Mud Dyeing is a tradition native to Amami Oshima, built on the tannin-rich dye of the Teichi wheel plum tree combined with iron-rich mud drawn from strata over 1.5 million years old. The two react with each other on the fabric in a process that requires repeated dyeing and mud-bathing cycles, each one deepening the color and locking in a warmth and richness that no synthetic dye can touch. The dark brown that results is entirely its own, the kind of color that shifts and deepens as it catches the light, and one that will continue to develop its own character with every wear.

A variance of +/-.5" is within tolerance. 

Fit Notes: Studio D'artisan generally has a pretty small fit in their cotton t-shirts, but this iteration has a little more room. Tommy is wearing a large in this one and it fit quite a bit better than the printed t-shirts from the same release. We wouls still recommend sizing up once, because while there is room, it's not a ton more. Luckily, these don't shrink much due to the dyeing process. Tommy is 5'9," 165lbs with a 41" chest.
