Peru grows some of the world's most sought-after Pima cotton in the river valleys along its northern coast, where the crop is still picked by hand and the fibers run long. Long-staple cotton like this spins into yarn with fewer fiber ends working their way to the surface, which is why it feels smooth rather than fuzzy in the hand, takes hard wear in stride, and carries a quiet sheen instead of a dull matte finish. 3sixteen keeps this crewneck close to its source, using Pima grown in the region surrounding the Peruvian factory that knits it, so the cotton covers very little ground between field and yarn. The yarn itself is spun hefty, and that weight is what makes the sweater behave the way it does: the knit has enough body to hold the shoulders and hem in shape over the long haul, and the hand still stays soft and easy from the first wear. Raglan sleeves run the shoulder line into one continuous piece for room to move, and ribbed cuffs and hem keep the edges snug.
