There is a reason chunky knits feel the way they do. Worked at a heavy gauge and left loose, the yarn holds air in the space between every stitch, and that trapped air is what does the insulating while keeping the sweater surprisingly light in the hand. Merz b. Schwanen builds this one entirely from extra fine merino, where the individual fibers measure under 19 microns across, fine enough to bend softly against the skin instead of scratching at it. Merino regulates as much as it insulates: the fiber takes on moisture vapor as it builds and releases it again, so the sweater stays comfortable outdoors in the cold and indoors afterward rather than overheating you the moment you step inside. The silhouette runs slightly cropped, and the sheer volume of the knit balances that out, giving the sweater presence through the body. The loose chunky structure shows itself most clearly where the rib takes over at the neckline, cuffs, and hem, with the stitches standing up in high relief. Knit triangular inserts sit under each arm to open up the sleeve where it needs to move, and a swan loop label sits at the hem.

Fit Notes: Tommy is wearing an L in this piece. All the heavier sweaters seemed to be fitting better in his standard size. Usually he takes and XL from the brand, so we would recommend sizing down once from what you normally wear in the tees. If you don't know your Merz size, use the charts or go for your standard size in this one. He is 5'9," 160lbs, with a 41" chest.
