Deck Hat Virgin Wool - Safety Red

$ 75.00

Heimat Textil knits in Germany, and the work shows its age in the best possible way. The name means homeland, and the brand builds from the knitwear that came out of German working life: sweaters made for fishermen, submarine crews, and anyone else who needed a garment to stand between them and the weather. The patterns come from vintage pieces, the wool is virgin and left with its natural oils intact, and the finishing is done by hand in a way almost nobody bothers with anymore. Pick one up and the craft registers immediately, before you have read a single tag. These are built to outlast you, and they happen to be beautiful while doing it.

The Deck Hat is the house skull cap, built with a 5cm double-rolled brim so it sits shallow on the crown or pulls down over the ears depending on the day. Sailors and fishermen wore the shape first, for the obvious reason that a close cap stays on in wind that takes anything looser. Mountaineers picked it up later for a less obvious one: a dense wool cap takes the sting out of small stones coming down from above, which happens more often on a climb than anyone would like. The hat shares its DNA with the sweaters, using the same premium virgin wool with its natural oils left in to shed water and resist dirt, and the same distinctive 5-gauge knit that gives Heimat pieces their texture and their weight. Knit in the brand's own factory in Germany.

  • 100% virgin wool
  • 5-gauge knit
  • 5cm double-rolled brim
  • Natural self-cleaning and water-resistant properties
  • Knitted in Germany
Measurement Inches
Height 6"
Length 8 - 10

A variance of +/-.5" is within tolerance.

Fit Notes: These are skullies. They're generally built to be worn above the ears like a true fisherman's cap. These likely won't fit guys with larger domes without a bit of stretching. Luckily wool has quite a bit of natural stretch.
