Double Heavyweight Crewneck T-Shirt - Heather Grey

We got in on Wonder Looper before the brand had a website. The owners asked whether we wanted some of the heaviest knits being made anywhere, and that is a short conversation. Heavyweight tees are familiar ground for us and for most of the people who shop here, but these sit in a different category. The jersey runs 409gsm, or 12.1oz per square yard, roughly double what the industry calls heavyweight, and the surprise is that it still drapes. A fabric this dense could easily hang like cardboard. Instead, the weight pulls it down into a clean line off the shoulders. Knitting it this way takes time. The jersey is circular knit in Japan at low tension, which is where the uneven surface texture comes from, the kind of irregular face that makes a vintage tee look like a vintage tee rather than a printed blank. Construction holds up its end. The collar is a binder neck with ribbing, bound rather than simply set in, so it keeps its shape through years of pulling the shirt over your head. The side seams are joined on a union special flat seam machine, which butts the panels together and stitches them flat so there is no ridge running down your ribs. Cut and sewn in Japan. We were one of the first shops in the country to carry these. They sold out, we reordered, and they sold out again.

A variance of +/-.5" is within tolerance. 

Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy is wearing a size large this round. This is considered an athletic fit which reads to us as a roomier, more American cut. It's not often we see Japanese brands with that sort of cut, but the Wonder Looper owners built this brand with that specifically in mind. He honestly prefers the large in something this heavy, but you could get away with your true size if you're not wearing it with baggier pants. Tommy is our standard fit model at 5'10," 161lbs with a 40" chest.
