Baseball uniforms in the early 1900s were reinforced where they took the most wear, and the stitching used to do it was quilting. Jackman starts there and takes the idea somewhere unexpected, sending the quilting work to Lavenham in England. The company has been stitching diamond-quilted pieces in Suffolk since 1969, first for horses and then for people, and its 1-inch slant diamond pattern shows up here on the pockets. The body of the pant is Jackman's own Dotsume Tenjiku, a densely knit cotton jersey with far more substance than the word jersey usually suggests, so the pants carry weight and hold their shape while keeping the ease of a knit. Putting that fabric against Lavenham's quilting gives you two very different textures working on the same garment. The pants themselves are produced in Japan, and this is the first time bottoms have appeared in the collaboration, after several seasons of tops.
