Jackman runs quilting over the shoulders and down the arms of a waffle knit mid-neck, placing it exactly where a protector would sit, and hands the quilting itself to Lavenham. The English company has been stitching diamond quilting in Suffolk since 1969, and its 2-inch pattern gives the panels real scale, big enough to read clearly against the fine grid of the waffle underneath. Those two textures are the whole appeal. Waffle knit holds air in its honeycomb and breathes while it insulates, so the body of the piece stays comfortable indoors, and the quilted panels add weight and structure through the upper half. The mid-neck sits higher than a crew and lower than a mock turtleneck, which keeps it clean under the collar of a jacket or a vest.

Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy is wearing a large by rule from Jackman. These run like a traditional waffle mid-neck before they updated the fit. So it is almost a necessity to size up once on this one, as they mark it as one full size smaller than their new waffle mid-neck fit. Tommy is 5'9," 160lbs with a 40" chest.
