JM7580 - Big Loop Crewneck - 431 Dark Gray

A loopwheel machine knits roughly a meter of fabric an hour, feeding the yarn through under almost no tension, and that patience is why loopback from these old machines feels the way it does. Jackman goes a step further here. On most loopback, the loops on the reverse are formed from a single yarn, and this fabric uses two separate yarns instead, which let the mill dial in the density and the size of each loop independently. What comes off the machine has loops with real volume behind them, closer to the inside of a jacket than a sweatshirt, and the face is organic cotton open-end yarn, spun in a way that leaves a fuller, slightly rougher hand than ring spinning gives. All of it stays soft and light the way loopback should, and it resists the twisting and distortion that cheaper sweat fabric picks up after a few washes. The pattern comes from the 1940s and 50s, built on a freedom sleeve, an old athletic cut that opens up the chest and rounds the line where the sleeve meets the body so the arms can move freely, with the silhouette tapering gently toward the hem. The stitching splits the difference between strength and comfort, with covering stitch through the high-stress seams and flat seams anywhere the garment meets skin.
