Merino earns its reputation down at the level of the fiber. Each strand is fine enough to bend against the skin rather than prickle, and the natural crimp running along its length traps pockets of air while still moving moisture out, which is why merino holds a steady temperature in cold weather instead of turning clammy. Merz b. Schwanen blends it here with 10% cashmere, combed from the soft undercoat of cashmere goats, a fiber finer and lighter than wool that lends the surface its quiet softness. That yarn gets worked into a chunky rib, and the rib is where the sweater gets its presence: deep columns of knit and purl that give the surface real texture and let the fabric stretch and spring back as you move through the day. A round neckline keeps the top of it simple, and raglan sleeves run the shoulder into one continuous line so the arms stay free under a jacket.

Fit Notes: Tommy is wearing an L in this piece. All the heavier sweaters seemed to be fitting better in his standard size. Usually he takes and XL from the brand, so we would recommend sizing down once from what you normally wear in the tees.
