R5146 - Indigo-Dyed Mill Watch Cap - Dark

A military watch cap had a job to do. It sat under a helmet or came out on deck in weather, which meant it had to be knit tight enough to hold its shape through a long shift and keep doing it the next day. Rototo takes that as the starting point here and builds the cap with the sock-making techniques the brand knows best, knitting it densely with stretch yarn so it hugs the head and springs back rather than stretching out at the brim. The finished cap is then garment washed and tumble dried, which settles the loops and locks the structure in place before it ever reaches you. The yarn is indigo-dyed cotton, the same material behind a pair of jeans, and it behaves the same way. Indigo sits on the surface of the fiber rather than soaking all the way through, so the dye wears off wherever the cap sees friction. Expect the roll of the brim and the crown to lighten first, and the cap to end up marked by how you wear it.
