Sweatpants - Double Heavyweight French Terry - Oatmeal

Wonder Looper's Double Heavyweight French Terry has already made a strong case for itself up top, and it now comes as a sweatpant. The knit is made in Wakayama, the center of Japan's knitting industry, on low-gauge circular machines that take heavier yarn and turn slowly enough to work it properly, which is how the fabric arrives at 876gsm, close to twice the weight of a standard heavyweight terry. The low gauge shows on both faces. Outside, the surface has an irregular, dimensional texture that shifts as light moves across the leg. Inside, huge soft loops cover the whole face and hold onto warmth, which is the part you notice first and keep noticing. Fabric this substantial could easily turn stiff, so ribbed panels run down both sides to open up movement through the hip and thigh and pull the shape in clean at the same time. The leg falls straight for a simple profile that carries the weight well. An elastic drawstring waistband handles the top, slash pockets sit at the front, and a single patch pocket sits at the rear.

Fit Notes: This is considered an athletic fit which reads to us as a roomier, more American cut. It's not often we see Japanese brands with that sort of cut, but the Wonder Looper owners built this brand with that specifically in mind. The medium fits him, but he prefers the roomier nature of the large in the legs. The pants have a drawstring, so you have the luxury of going between sizes. Tommy is our standard fit model at 5'9," 160lbs with a 41" chest. His typical North American size is medium and Japanese size is large.
