Wander Hiking Sock Virgin Wool - Rescue Orange

$ 75.00

Heimat Textil knits in Germany, and the work shows its age in the best possible way. The name means homeland, and the brand builds from the knitwear that came out of German working life: sweaters made for fishermen, submarine crews, and anyone else who needed a garment to stand between them and the weather. The patterns come from vintage pieces, the wool is virgin and left with its natural oils intact, and the finishing is done by hand in a way almost nobody bothers with anymore. Pick one up and the craft registers immediately, before you have read a single tag. These are built to outlast you, and they happen to be beautiful while doing it.

Wandern is the German word for hiking, which tells you what these were drawn up for, though that is only half of where they end up. Knit in Germany from virgin wool and handsewn at the toe, they are heavy enough to fill out a boot properly and cushion a long day on uneven ground, and wool handles the part most people forget: it holds its warmth even once it takes on moisture, and it keeps odor down over several days of wear. The same qualities make them very hard to take off indoors, where plenty of pairs end up doing slipper duty on a cold floor. Wash them at 30 degrees and they will keep their shape for years. Never underestimate how much a genuinely good pair of socks improves a day.
