XX-019 - 14oz Original Selvedge Denim - Relaxed Taper

The Pure Blue Japan XX-019 is the flagship denim that Kenichi Iwaya built his entire vision around when he founded the brand in Okayama in 1997. The 14oz unsanforized selvedge is low-tension woven on vintage shuttle looms in Ibara, Okayama using carefully selected American and Indian cottons, producing a fabric with an uber-slubby, hairy surface texture and a depth of indigo that rewards the kind of patient, hard wear that brings out the best in this cloth. PBJ is widely regarded as one of the masters of indigo dye, and the XX fabric is the clearest expression of why. The fades this denim produces have become some of the most talked-about in Japanese denim circles, developing contrast and character in a way that the low-tension weave and slubby construction make possible. Construction details are understated but executed with the precision of experienced artisans using thicker threads than most brands, iron buttons, embossed metal hardware, heavy-duty bar tacks, high-quality pocket bags, a custom lambskin leather patch, and the signature Shoai leaf embroidery on the back pocket.

Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy popped up to a 35 in these, as well. This is likely going to be his new normal size from PBJ. The Relax Taper is slim enough that he wants to get a bit of extra room in the leg. We recommend sizing up twice in these. Tommy is 5'9," 165lbs with a 33-34" waist.
