Zip Hoodie - Double Heavyweight French Terry - Oatmeal

Wakayama sits at the center of Japan's knitting industry, and it is where this French terry is made, run on circular knitting machines at a low 10 gauge. Fewer needles around the cylinder means heavier yarn and a coarser, more irregular surface, and it means the knitting takes its time. What comes off the machine lands at roughly twice the weight of a standard heavyweight knit, with large, soft loops covering the entire inside face. From there, the interior is lightly brushed, just enough to puff those loops into a half-fleece that holds warmth close while leaving the terry structure intact, so the inside reads fuller and softer and still looks like the knit it is. The finished garment is rinse-washed and pre-shrunk to settle the fabric and keep further shrinkage at home to a minimum. Raglan sleeves let the shoulders move freely under all that weight, and ribbed panels run down the sides into the cuffs and hem to give the knit structure and hold its shape. Flat-seam construction keeps the joins smooth against the skin and gives the piece a clean, finished look throughout. Down the front runs a heavy-gauge two-way Waldes zipper, a name that traces back to the early decades of the zipper trade, and the two-way slider lets the hem open up while the top stays closed. A drawstring hood and split hand-warmer pockets complete the front.

Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy is wearing a size large. This is considered an athletic fit which reads to us as a roomier, more American cut. We rarely see Japanese brands with that sort of cut, but the Wonder Looper owners built this brand with that specifically in mind.The large fit with plenty of extra room in the chest, hem, and arms. The zip version is probably the roomiest of all and it can be worn open, so sizing down is possible on this piece. The set-in sleeves also help to give a perfect fit in the shoulders in almost any size. Tommy is our standard fit model at 5'9," 160lbs with a 40" chest. His typical North American size is medium and Japanese size is large.
